Act 1: The Amica´s feast

Countess Allegra Bellabona welcomes her guests to her lavish feast. As Amica dell´ anima (lady of the soul) she has been devoted to her married gallant for years. Since her gallant´s wife recently passed away, she is convinced he will soon propose to her. However, the evening takes a sudden turn when the „clacking mail carrier“ delivers a message from her beloved.

2. Act

Act 2: Turmoil of the senses

The Amica dell´ anima introduces her guests to the secret language of the fan and the inspiring art of flirting. She herself once found the method to be very helpful in finding her first love as her beau had not been able to resist the sensualty hidden in the language of the fan. Unfortunately their secret rendezvous did not remain undisturbed!

3. Act

Act 3: The shining hour

Browsing through her library, the Amica has discovered the old tradition of the proxy marriage (marriage per procurationem). She joyfully decides to use this popular method and get married to her gallant without his knowledge. Supported by her singers, she soon finds an appropriate candidate among her guests. Much to her consternation, he also appeals to the soprano!
